Role[edit]
D.Va is a Tank character with powerful short range weapons, and an Ultimate skill that can clear out an entire room in one blast.
As a Tank, D.Va has tons of health. What makes her unique, is that upon death, D.Va will leap out of her mech and can run away. This makes her extra tough to kill, as you essentially must kill her twice. Her mech is also quite strong, with two Fusion Cannons that are basically infinite ammo shotguns, and a shield that blocks all incoming projectiles for a short time.
The downside to D.Va is her very short range, and poor mobility. Although she has Boosters, they only allow her to go forward, and when she is firing her guns, D.Va moves at a very slow speed.
Abilities[edit]
Fusion Cannons: D.Va's primary weapons, the Fusion Cannons have unlimited ammo, but only reach a short range, essentially acting like shotguns. While firing her these, D.Va moves considerably slower than usual.
Light Gun: While walking around outside her mech, D.Va can fire a pistol. It's very accurate, allowing for long range shots, but doesn't deal much damage. It's primary use is to refill D.Va's ultimate bar, so she can summon a new mech.
Boosters: By firing her boosters, D.Va will shoot forward for several seconds in a line, smashing into anyone or anything in her path. This can deal some damage, but also get you into and out of trouble quickly. The Boosters will also continue to push her mech should she decide to Self-Destruct.
Defense Matrix: D.Va activates a forcefield in front of her which stops all projectiles for a very brief time. This is best used if you see an incoming missile or wish to protect someone as you two move forward. The Defense Matrix will shut off if D.Va fires her weapon.
Self-Destruct (Ultimate): D.Va jumps out of her mech, setting it to explode, dealing massive damage in the surrounding area. This explosion will also hurt D.Va if she isn't far enough away. Self Destruct normally causes the mech to stop moving as it detonates, however if you fire the Boosters first, they will continue to push the mech as Self Destruct charges.
Call Mech (Ultimate): D.Va summons a new mech. This skill requires her ultimate bar to be charged. There are two ways D.Va can lose her mech. By using Self Destruct, or by losing all her health in mech form. |
Story[edit]
D.Va is a former professional gamer who now uses her skills to pilot a state-of-the-art mech in defense of her homeland.
Twenty years ago, South Korea was attacked by a colossal omnic monstrosity that rose from the depths of the East China Sea. The massive, lumbering construct caused catastrophic damage to coastal cities before it was driven back beneath the waves. In response, the South Korean government developed a mechanized armored drone unit, called MEKA, to protect urban environments in future engagements with the omnic threat.
The government's fears proved to be well founded, as a disturbing pattern of attacks emerged. Every few years, the monstrosity would rise from the sea to assault South Korea and its neighbors. The omnic learned from these encounters, often reconfiguring itself in a different form and appearing with new weapons and capabilities. Each incident ended in a stalemate, with the monstrosity defeated but not destroyed.
As the omnic continued to adapt, it eventually disrupted MEKA's drone-control networks, forcing the military to place pilots in the mechs. Scrambling to find suitable candidates, the government turned to the country's professional gamers, who possessed the necessary reflexes and instincts to operate the mechs' advanced weapons systems. Top stars were drafted, including reigning world champion Hana Song, also known as "D.Va." Famous for her elite skills, D.Va was a fierce competitor who played to win at all costs, and she had a well-earned reputation for showing no mercy to her opponents.
Seeing her new mission as a game, D.Va fearlessly charges into battle alongside the rest of her MEKA unit, ready to spring to her nation's defense at a moment's notice. Recently, she has begun to stream combat operations to her adoring fans, and her growing following has turned her into a global icon.
