Strategy[edit | edit source]
Lúcio is a versatile Support that hits a nice middle ground between Zenyatta and Mercy. The passive healing provided by his Crossfade ability enables him to actively contribute damage to a fight with his Sonic Amplifier while still healing his allies, and his higher base health and the knockback of his Sonic Amplifier's secondary fire makes him more survivable than Zenyatta. He is capable of providing a massive speed boost, and a large damage absorption shield with his Ultimate. Much like Soldier: 76, he pays for this versatility with a lack of specialization, being neither as good at damage dealing as Zenyatta, nor as good at healing as Mercy.
Weapons & Abilities[edit | edit source]
- Wall Ride (Passive): When next to a wall, Lúcio can hold the jump button to begin to skate along the side of the wall. He will continue to skate forwards on the wall until he either comes to the end of that wall, or when he ends it by releasing the jump button.
- Lúcio can use this ability to climb certain walls, provided they're long enough. By pressing the jump button quickly while using Wall Ride, Lucio can gain more vertical height, allowing him to "hop" up the side of walls.
- Wall Ride can be used on almost any vertical surface, including the pillars at the final point of Temple of Anubis. Try out skating on every surface you come across to see if it can be used with Wall Ride.
- Using Wall Ride can throw off your opponents' aim. Keep in mind that your vertical position is mostly locked while using Wall Ride, and you cannot change direction, so extended time on a wall can end up making you an easy target.
- Sonic Amplifier: Lúcio's primary weapon. The primary fire will shoot out a burst of four sonic projectiles, dealing damage to any target they hit. The secondary fire will shoot out a short ranged cone-shaped blast of sound that deals damage and knocks back any enemy target it hits.
- The primary fire's projectiles travel somewhat slowly. Get in the habit of leading your targets to try and maximize the number of hits you get.
- The secondary fire has an incredible amount of utility. It can be used to knock away dangerous targets like Roadhog or Reaper; to knock enemies into pits on maps like Ilios; to push enemies into corners to make them easier targets; or to deal fast burst damage in combination with the primary fire and your quick melee attack.
- Crossfade: Crossfade creates a continuous, permanent aura around Lúcio, affecting all allies within a large area who are within his line of sight. Lucio can activate Crossfade to switch between two different versions of this aura: a healing aura that slowly restores the health of all affected allies, or a speed aura that increases the movement speed of all affected allies. Lúcio always begins with the speed aura up after respawning.
- Switch between the two auras as necessary. The speed aura is good for getting your team through a dangerous area quickly, while the healing aura is good for patching up damaged allies.
- The speed aura can sometimes be a better choice than the healing aura in combat, depending on who you're up against. The increased speed can allow you to dodge projectiles more easily, as well as making it harder for heroes like Widowmaker to land headshots against you.
- Amp It Up: When activated, Lúcio increases the power of his current Crossfade aura for a few seconds. His healing aura will heal for more, while his speed aura will provide a much larger increase in speed.
- Amp It Up has a large cooldown. Try to use it tactically, rather than simply activating it whenever it's available.
- Amplifying the healing aura is useful in situations where your team is taking heavy damage, or when an ally has sustained a large amount of damage and needs a lot of immediate healing to not die.
- Amplifying the speed aura is useful in situations where your team needs to move in on a point quickly. It can also be useful against certain Ultimates, such as Pharah'sBarrage, enabling your allies to speedily escape into cover to avoid most of the damage.
- Sound Barrier (Ultimate): Lúcio's Ultimate ability. When activated, Lúcio will, after a short cast time, create a massive, temporary shield on himself and any allies who are within Crossfade's range of effect. This shield effectively increases the maximum Health of every affected ally. This shield will gradually decay over its duration.
- Sound Barrier is a versatile Ultimate that can be used both offensively (when pushing onto a dangerous area, such as a capture point) and defensively (when there is a powerful Ultimate coming your way that your team cannot avoid).
- If Lúcio is killed before the cast time of Sound Barrier is finished, then Sound Barrier will not be activated. Try to use it preemptively when you suspect your team is about to take heavy damage, rather than using it in a panic.
- Use Sound Barrier in coordination with the Ultimates of the rest of your team. Heroes like Pharah and Reaper become much deadlier when under the effect of Sound Barrier, as they can then use their own Ultimates without worrying about being killed.
- Much like Reinhardt's Earthshatter, Lúcio will not finish casting Sound Barrier while midair. He will only finish casting it while on the ground.
General Strategies[edit | edit source]
- Lúcio is a welcome addition to any team. He's capable of healing, moving his allies quickly around the map, negating or dampening the effect of certain Ultimates, controlling enemies, and dealing damage. If your team is in need of a Support, Lúcio is always an excellent first choice.
- When playing on Defense, don't forget to use Amp It Up along with your speed aura to get your team to the first point quickly. Certain heroes like Symmetra benefit from being able to get there as fast as possible, as it gives them more time to set up their defenses.
- Use a combination of Crossfade's speed aura, Wall Ride, and Sound Amplifier's secondary fire to keep yourself evasive and safe from harm. While not as much of a priority target as Mercy, most enemies will still be gunning for you in order to remove the effects of your healing aura.
- Wall Ride can be used to creatively move yourself around the map in ways that many other heroes can't manage. An example is the second point of Lijiang Tower: Lúcio can use Wall Ride to leap onto the walls next to the moat surrounding the objective, enabling him to avoid enemy fire and get to the objective much more quickly. Experiment around in Custom Games to find movement paths that can give you an edge over your opponents.
- Lúcio is sturdier than most of the other supports due to his reasonable base Health and the regenerating effect of his healing aura. While you should always worry about keeping yourself from harm, make sure that you exploit his relative durability by staying close to your team so that they can benefit from Crossfade, rather than sitting way back like Zenyatta normally does.
Story[edit | edit source]
Lúcio is an international celebrity who inspires social change through his music and actions.
Background[edit | edit source]
Lúcio Correia dos Santos grew up in Rio de Janeiro, in a poor and crowded favela that was hit hard by the financial upheaval following the Omnic Crisis. As Brazil began the long process of recovery, he wanted to find a way to lift the spirits of those around him. He found his answer in music and its power to bring people together and even help them forget their troubles, if only for a short time. He performed on street corners, in block parties, and as he got older, at a string of legendary underground shows.
But Lúcio's close-knit community was thrown into chaos when the multinational Vishkar Corporation secured a contract to redevelop large tracts of the city. Lúcio and his neighbors had been told that the development would improve their lives. However, that promise never became a reality. Vishkar imposed controls on the residents in the name of building a more orderly society: enforcing curfews, cracking down on what the company perceived as lawless behavior, and exploiting the populace as a cheap labor force.
Lúcio wouldn't stand for it. He stole Vishkar sonic technology that had been used to suppress the people, and he converted it into a tool to rally them to action. In a popular uprising, they drove Vishkar out of their neighborhoods. Lúcio's leadership made him a star overnight and a symbol for positive social change. His music skyrocketed in popularity. Whereas he had once performed locally, he was now filling arenas across the world.[1] He built up a career doing live shows, and became something of a national icon in Brazil.[2]
With his newfound fame, Lúcio realized that he had an opportunity to make a difference and change the world for the better.[1]
Synaesthesia[edit | edit source]
Lúcio embarked on a world tour to promote his debut album, Synaesthesia Auditiva, which he spent two years working on. He released two tracks beforehand, and was delighted with the positive reception.[2]
Numbani[edit | edit source]
Lúcio was set to give a live concert in Numbani.[3]
